Wisconsin luncheon focuses on how to feed the world

Jim Massey, The Country Today | Jan. 29, 2013

MADISON, Wis. -- The food-producing regions of the world have a daunting task before them between now and the year 2050 -- to double food production for a population that will increase by 35 percent during that time period.

That was the challenge presented Jan. 23 by panelists at a luncheon preceding the Wisconsin Agricultural Outlook Forum on the UW-Madison campus.

"Feeding Nine Billion by 2050" was the topic of the lecture panel, featuring John Shutske, associate dean and program director of agriculture and natural resources Extension and outreach; Ben Brancel, Wisconsin agriculture secretary; and Pete Kappelman, a Manitowoc dairy farmer and chairman of the Land O'Lakes board.
