The Department of Natural Resources is trying to locate all fish farmers who are doing business in the Great Lakes Basin and who have withdrawals averaging 100,000 gallons per day or more in any 30 day period. The passage of Wisconsin Act 227 - the states implementing language for the Great lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact (Compact)- gave only until December 8, 2008 for facilities withdrawing the 100,000 gallons per day to be registered and grandfathered regarding the act. The DNR has sent out letters to all farms it believes to be in this watershed. If you have not received a letter from the DNR, please contact them. Attached are docs from the DNR explaining this.
If your fish farm is within the Great Lakes Basin (see map at: Click Here) and 100,000 gallons or more pass through your farm per day than you need to register with DNR and become grandfathered.
